The Safekeeping of God

Ezra 1:7-8

"Also Cyrus the king brought forth the vessels of the house of the LORD, which Nebuchadnezzar had brought forth out of Jerusalem, and had put them in the house of his gods; Even those did Cyrus king of Persia bring forth by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer, and numbered them unto Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah."

Have you ever lost something or someone dear to you? Throughout the Bible, we witness God's hand at work, preserving and protecting what seems lost. One powerful example of this is found in the book of Ezra:

After the Babylonians ransacked Jerusalem, the sacred vessels from the house of the Lord were taken away to Babylon. Seventy years later, while many may have thought these treasures were destroyed and gone forever, God had other plans. These vessels were never out of His safekeeping. At the appointed time, God moved the heart of King Cyrus to return these treasures to their rightful place. What seemed lost in man's eyes was being preserved by God until they were needed once again.

Another powerful example is found in the story of Joseph, when he was sold into slavery and his father believed he was dead:

Genesis 37:31-33

"And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood; And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son's coat or no. And he knew it, and said, It is my son's coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces."

Jacob looked at the evidence in front of him and believed the lie that his son was dead and that he would never see him again. But all the while, his son was being kept in the safekeeping of God. The next time Jacob would see him, Joseph would be standing beside the King of Egypt.

The lesson today is that nothing is truly lost when placed in the hands of God. In our lives, we may face situations where all hope seems gone, but we can trust that God is still in control.

Don’t give up. God’s safekeeping is perfect, and at the right time, He will bring about His purposes in ways we could never have imagined.

Luke 19:10

"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."
